AI Assistant
Brainy comes with a built-in AI Assistant designed to supercharge your study workflow — helping you create materials faster and get more out of your documents without ever leaving the app.
The AI Assistant is available via the popup in the bottom right corner of the screen. Click it to open a chat interface where you can ask questions, request study materials, or interact with your uploaded content in natural language.
What the AI Can Do
Generate Flashcards Simply describe a topic and ask the AI to create flashcards for you. For example: "Create 10 flashcards on the French Revolution" — and Brainy will generate a ready-to-study card set that you can add directly to any file. The AI is optimized to follow the learning rules described in this link.
Answer Questions from Your Documents Upload a file and the AI will read and analyze it for you. Ask it to summarize key concepts, explain difficult sections, or turn the content into a structured set of flashcards — all from within the chat popup.
Context-Aware Assistance When you are in the editor or reviewer, the AI can see which card you are currently viewing and use it as context for your questions or requests. This makes it easy to ask follow-up questions about a specific card or generate related flashcards on the fly.
Edit the Current Highlighted Cell The AI can directly edit the cell you currently have highlighted in the editor. Simply ask it to rewrite, improve, or update the content — and it will apply the changes in place without any manual copying.
Aware of Your Files and Folders The AI has visibility into your files and folders, so you can ask it to create flashcards directly inside a specific file. For example: "Add 5 flashcards on photosynthesis to my Biology notes file" — and Brainy will place them exactly where you want without any manual copying.
Uploading Documents
You can attach documents directly in the AI chat popup. Once uploaded, the AI can reference the document's content in its responses, making it easy to build study materials from lecture notes, textbooks, research papers, and more.
Supported AI Providers
Brainy supports two AI providers:
- Ollama — run powerful language models locally on your own machine. Your data stays private and no internet connection is required.
- OpenAI — connect using your OpenAI API key to use models like GPT-5.2-mini and other OpenAI-hosted models.
Turning Off the AI Assistant
If you prefer not to use the AI features, the assistant can be disabled entirely in Settings. Once turned off, the chat popup will no longer appear and no AI-related processing will take place.
